  #WritersCoffeeClub 6 Aug: When is deus ex machina warranted? so, you can always use a coincidence *against* the protagonist. But if we are talking about an unmotivated event or action, especially by a character new to the narrative, that solves the protagonist's core conflict at the end of the book, I can't imagine that being satisfying outside a comic context. That said, a lot of Agatha Christie's "fair play" bordered on deus ex machina IMHO.

  I am in between health insurance providers for two weeks so we went ahead and paid retail for flu & Covid vaccines just in case some weird-ass anti-science hammer falls before Monday. Looking forward to getting at least some part of the American experiment back on the rails.

  Seal Rock Inn Restaurant reopened in January, and we finally got over there for breakfast. The menu is shorter, very Vietnamese-French influenced and quite delicious! Mains are on average $22, but so, so delicious! The omelettes are a decent (not crazy big size) the bread thick and warm, and the potatoes seasoned just right.
