Tiny Tables: A Base Oracle for TTRPGs A miniature "pocketfold": It contains the entire core set of my own random tables and generators for playing solo #TTRPGs. I plan to release a couple of other niche pocketfolds for encounters and locations. https://monkeyslunch.itch.io/tiny-tables-oracles-for-ttrpgs?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=fedica-Random

"A shooting star?" he says aloud as a light sploosh is made in the pond from his toss. No, that's... That's close. That's real close. His eyes widen. He can see a figure in the middle of the light, whatever it is, hurdling towards the middle of Cranberry Pond. 1/2

I catalogue a lot of the music that's helped inspire the Bug & Claw #ttrpg and fiction development. I haven't made 2024's playlist public yet, but 2023 and 2022 have some bangers. What kind of music inspires your creations? 1/2

Have you seen light used in a TTRPG or board game before? I mean literal light, like from the sun, a flashlight, or maybe a candle? In this post I dive into one of my favourite mechanics: https://monkeyslunch.com/favourite-mechanics-sunlight/?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=fedica-Monkeyslunch-devlogs-and-posts

I'm clean-shaven again and reminded of when we were going into a restaurant one time and a coworker was randomly there with his son who had only been talking for a few months. He just kept pointing at me and saying “Caillou! Caillou! Caillou!” and his dad couldn’t stop laughing.

We can fall in love with mechanics and systems, but everything needs to have a reason to exist in a game, or it can feel bloated. On the flip side, you may spend a long time working on something that ultimately adds little value. Where do you need to cut? 1/2

When planning fiction, a setting, or generally world-building, I think it's important to get down what your "Fundamental ideas" are. What are the things that are always true? What are the things that effect everything else? 1/2

It's essential to understand that no single game system or mechanic is inherently superior to others. Each has its strengths and weaknesses, and the choice depends heavily on the type of game experience you want to create and the target audience. 1/2

Most RPG equipment tables are combinations a designer got bored of enumerating before finishing. Modular tags admit the truth: a sword is just a sword until you staple properties to it. Define the properties. Let the table write itself. Diversity and representation can be really important in games and other media. One way I've explored this is with communication. Different languages are often available in TTRPGs but rarely other modes of communicating. 1/2

If a character would automatically pass a test regardless of their roll because their attribute score is so high, there is no need to roll. If a situation is not challenging then there should be no test to begin with– Do not overuse attribute tests. 1/2

An aspect of TTRPGs that I find incredibly interesting is when a game successfully separates various phases, like town, camp, dungeon diving, overworld, and so on. Which games have you seen that do this really well? 1/2
