Ed Povey’s murals were the most prominent art of my childhood One was just up the road, another round the corner, another on the side of the chippy near my gran’s house, etc https://edwardpovey.com/selected-early-murals

Random internet content is now almost worthless for training LLMs, which is why they’re spending millions on buying/scanning/destroying LLM-free physical books What happens when hardly anyone’s writing new, uncontaminated non-fiction? I suppose we’re going to find out

Didn’t stay up for the football but I’m a big fan of anything that temporarily harms productivity, there’s not enough slacking off nowadays

It’s hugely important that people understand how these things actually work, we’re facing a potential epidemic of AI-provoked mental illness, but instead of public health campaigns & classes in schools we have a govt that’s eagerly promoting the tech https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c242pzr1zp2o

Bizarre thing for a premium brand to do, an artist wouldn’t have been expensive (especially for this kind of style) and would’ve also given them a name, a story, someone to help push the products, etc https://cjleo.com/blog/moleskine-ai-lord-of-the-rings-collection-can-only-mock/

Argos in town has become a church, hope they make people write prayer/hymn requests on slips of paper using tiny pencils then show their numbers queued up on a screen

Thanks to Ruffle, so much Flash stuff has been resurrected, eg the huge collection at Orisinal https://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/ (what's Ferry Halim up to nowadays..?)

OK, who’s great at low(ish)-poly 3D modelling? Just lining up possible candidates for a chunk of work that should arrive in next month or two, going to have a polished, fairly minimalist style with restrained texturing (rather than messy, organic, etc)

Looks like Apple’s loosened its requirements for using account age to verify you’re an adult (didn’t work for me previously, possibly because I’d never used a credit card with Apple)

Today’s coding has mostly consisted of deleting code, which is always the best coding (realised a whole load of temporary variables weren’t actually needed)

Something I’m doing for the first time with current project & liking a lot: there’s a ‘changelog’ Google Doc where I put a date subheading then list what I’ve done/discovered, including occasional demo links. Client can dip in when feeling curious

Just made part of current project render 500-1000 times faster, hoping to do the same for two other areas but the maths/coding is going to be brutal

Just checked on sales numbers for this (Lulu doesn’t do anything helpful like showing you graphs/stats, have to download a CSV), it’s at 456 copies sold https://vole.wtf/doctype/ There won’t be a second issue, but there may be something related, and I’ve got another print project planned for autumn

My views on WordPress summarised: - Gutenberg had good aims but is terrible to use - Making a new theme is now a ludicrous slog - Should’ve fixed file structure & DB long ago (full URLs & file paths should only be in config!) - Popular plugins should’ve been replaced with built-in features
