  @davatron5000 @nilay_patel why would anyone have started a website back in 199(before capitalism hit the web)? those reasons are still valid too right? I guess the question probably isn't really "Why would anybody start a website?" and more like, "Why would anyone start a business on their own website?" that seems more like the question for the answers nilay got and sure, maybe there are better ways to go? but maybe you just got a hobby website - and...

  @davatron5000 wait, I thought the tools were supposed to work for us and it was a bad signal if you were spending time working for the tools. is up, down now? is forward... back? I'm so confused. When does it all end? and is that the beginning now?

  @davatron5000 @westbrook Yeah, I don't really see this as a standards thing. This would be a browser vendor thing. Like, the one that governs the login you give to your browser to let it know who you are (like the password manager) just another data point to sync. I make a lot of home-grown apps that don't use a server and I just persist state in the indexedDB and it _would be nice_ to be able to access my state from another machine without having to do the server song and danc...
