@davatron5000 @nilay_patel why would anyone have started a website back in 199(before capitalism hit the web)? those reasons are still valid too right? I guess the question probably isn't really "Why would anybody start a website?" and more like, "Why would anyone start a business on their own website?" that seems more like the question for the answers nilay got and sure, maybe there are better ways to go? but maybe you just got a hobby website - and maybe that turns into a business?
