Today we bought out our pharmacy's entire supply of those rescue blankets you can put on the window to block some heat (entire supply was one blanket, but the pharmacist was clearly extremely enthused about the idea, ask me to sketch him how to put it up and went to put in an order for more :D). I am genuinely terrified of the heatwave... it will be brutal.

I'm mentoring a delightful intern during Google Summer of Code... and it looks like the issue she is working on will get the best kind of solution, which is: add three lines that fix the problem, remove a ton of lines that only made it more complicated. This is so lovely <3 (and makes me miss teaching people so much, those moments that the person you are working with makes a big leap on their own are the best).

I would like to note that epipens have fucking abysmal #ux. Yesterday, I was handed one and tried to use it in panic (I did not know the person was allergic. There was no one for miles around. I have never used an epipen.) and I ended up sticking the needle in my thumb. Calling the ambulance with an epipen stuck in my finger: definitely an adventure. (everyone is fine) 1/2

Hey fediverse, I have a question about #rust ; I'm thinking about learning a bit more of it, but I would like to use it with Qt Widgets. Is it possible? Does it work well? Are there like big missing pieces that only work theoretically? Googling gives me a fairly inconsistent answers, everything between "it works perfectly" and "it's a nightmare". (Also yes I would like to know how Qt works, not about alternatives to Qt, most definitely not abou...

RE: https://mastodon.social/@glyph/116467306761201245 Computers are not a neutral tools you can just not use if they misbehave - especially nowadays, they for many people a fundamental tool of their work (which means survival), social interaction (which is a basic need), fulfilling societal obligations such as taxes or various other legal duties (also close to survival).... it's not consent if the alternative is losing your job, not getting to pay taxes, losing the ability to chat with...

What is the best #FOSS way of making/editing SVGs for simple graphics and icons? I generally use Inkscape, but it's often annoying to make sure things align perfectly in it (as in, here are two squares, I need their sides to touch exactly). It's not unmanageable, but it is somewhat annoying. And I really don't want to write them by hand: too much like my high-school approach to geometry problems (draw coordinates and punch it with algebra)

Ok Blender team showing a reel of amazing animation done with Blender including an Oscar-winner was a real flex, this is the sexiest face of FOSS and I love it #fossbackstagedesign
