What is the best #FOSS way of making/editing SVGs for simple graphics and icons? I generally use Inkscape, but it's often annoying to make sure things align perfectly in it (as in, here are two squares, I need their sides to touch exactly). It's not unmanageable, but it is somewhat annoying. And I really don't want to write them by hand: too much like my high-school approach to geometry problems (draw coordinates and punch it with algebra)

But maybe I just fail at using #inkscape? In that case, hints welcome!

@marmarta inkscape can do that quite reliably. There are edge align options in the align menu and if you turn on snapping you can just drag your squares next to each other. Inkscape is really good!
