It's official: The EPA has repealed a rule that would have directly saved thousands of lives by limiting fossil fuel emissions from power plants. Industry lobbyists successfully pushed for this repeal using surging demand from data centers as justification. The government chose AI over human lives.

The CDC has declared the cyclospora outbreak linked to iceberg lettuce over. Nearly 13,000 cases in 21 states have been linked to Taylor Farms lettuce. 570 people have been hospitalized and two have died.

Today Zohran Mamdani released 170,000 documents revealing that post-9/11 asbestos levels remained dangerous up to half a mile away 10 months after the attack, despite officials saying the air was safe. As we saw at the start of the COVID pandemic, 25 years on officials have learned nothing and continue to treat frontline and essential workers as expendable during crises. This is a huge and long-overdue step in the right direction.

5 measles deaths in 2 years is too many when we have a vaccine that is 97% effective at preventing infection. It’s ghoulish to dismiss the tragedy of these deaths.

US child vaccination rates have plunged since before the pandemic, with kindergarten classrooms in more than 70% of counties now lacking herd immunity against measles.

Dolly Parton is credited in at least 37 research papers on the COVID vaccine, including the first phase I trial results published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2020.

They are lowering US flags to half-mast for a week, but if the government really wants to pay tribute to Dolly, they should fund education, the arts, and medical research instead of trying to eradicate them.

The FDA just approved daraxonrasib, a breakthrough drug for advanced pancreatic cancer that doubles survival time. This is huge: pancreatic cancer was once thought untreatable. The researchers received a standing ovation when they presented the trial results, unheard of at scientific conferences. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/08/26/science/pancreatic-cancer-daraxonrasib-approval.html?unlocked_article_code=1.8VA.zmju.W-VPal8m1Jnu&smid=url-share

If you deny that COVID pushed our hospitals to the limit, vaccines work, and healthcare workers are heroes, you should not be allowed to hold public office, let alone lead a health agency.

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.

  • View post

RFK Jr was likely trying to use a COVID disinformation tactic, but he messed up the delivery.
To deceive, the right likes to say that *Emergency Room* visits fell in 2020.
While that stat is true, it’s because many people use the ER as primary care. But in 2020 they avoided the ER and delayed care due to social distancing.
Meanwhile, some hospitals had to increase intensive care beds by over 300% to due to an influx of critical COVID patients.
So in 2020, ER visits fell, but ICUs were full.

Please stop saying “lockdowns.” There were never true lockdowns in the US, and it fuels far right narratives to repeat this inaccurate statement. You can say closures, you can say restrictions, or better, you can say public health measures which saved many lives.

Anyone who has worked in healthcare will never forget the horrors we have experienced through the pandemic. No amount of lying or gaslighting can ever erase that.

It’s always odd to me when I get asked if I am wearing a mask because I am sick. In my experience, these days most people wearing a mask are doing so to prevent themselves getting sick, and most people who are sick don’t wear a mask at all.

As we recall the trauma caused by COVID in 2020, we should not forget that COVID is continuing to cause harm. Many are still suffering from Long COVID, people who still mask are often harassed, and we haven’t installed clean air infrastructure at a mass scale. If we truly acknowledge past harms, we should be working to create a better future.

A society that vilifies scientists and healthcare workers for trying to save lives is a society determined to destroy itself.
