@mei @anya And this is python! There's multiple file compression formats in the standard library that you can use near transparently! Instead of Json.load(open(filename)) Literally just do Json.load(lzma.open(filename)) No muss no fuss no stupid bmp

@foone I guess the follow-up question is WHICH Roku is becoming increasingly bad for you? My whole house is standardized on an old 5th gen model at every tv (4630), for basically only Plex usage, but the specs vary widely model to model.

I can't believe that I, a respected citizen with a master's degree from The Upper Class Can Rule By Inherent Divine Right University, am having arbitrary things done to me by the elite ruling class Dispatch my legal and PR teams at once.

To repeat what others have said... When administration lawyers told the courts that Kilmar Abrego Garcia wasn't supposed to be deported, it was not an admission of error. It was a flex. https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2025-04-14/salvadoran-president-says-he-wont-return-man-deported-by-mistake

Ok, so I'm a pretty decent programmer, but I'm only OK at devops. And security is not my specialty. However, just knowing the basics every rank and file engineer working in the industry has to know, it's clear that this is about the most serious data breach it is possible to have, and it was 💯 intentional. My reading of the chain of events - DOGE was given a number of accounts on NLRB's systems, with access levels higher than even the agency's administr...

@slightlyoff One thing I've learned following national dem party drama, is that you cannot count on the NY State party for ANYTHING. They stand for nothing except their own self interest and have the most stupid, self-destructive intra-party power struggles. I knew we were doomed when both house and senate party leadership were from the NY delegation. Worst state party in the country by FAR.

@amydiehl My company had a flexible WFH policy pre-pandemic, so we were totally ready for full WFH during pandemic. When the office reopened post-pandemic, they did an analysis of badge-swipe data and decided it didn't make sense to lease enough office for every Seattle employee to have a reserved cube every day. So they reduced their lease from 4 floors of the building to 1, and replaced assigned cubicles with an online day-to-day workstation reservation system. Then they eliminated...

@heidilifeldman This feels unlikely... Historically ICE deportation flights have been out of commercial airports on chartered commercial planes, including the recent el Salvador flights. But with this administration, anything is possible.

Several of the saints that got canonized in Pope Francis' final years were people that got killed by the Nazis for protecting others.
