Shout out to whatever Aunt/Uncle/Grandparent or whoever that gave 10 year old me a CD-rom setup for people to make their own Doom *.wads , with CAD and all sorts of stuff, and gave me my first existential crisis involving computers. All I really remember is that opening the CAD software resulted in a black screen managed by inscrutable keyboard shortcuts and I couldn't get it to be anything but that black screen... https://infosec.exchange/@st1nger/117052788992647901

Found a YouTube video about a PureData module, said to download from their defunct WordPress site; Wayback Machine has the site but not the Zip file... So, naturally, I have to recreate the patch by looking at the Lowres vision of it on the 13 year old video... Bitrot is annoying - the Internet is forever, except the bits you want.

You "have to" use "AI" right now because unless you work hard to avoid it then it's already been inserted into all the major websites and between you and the information you seek -- The Old Ways of searching are gone, you have to use smaller more specialized databases and constantly battle the encroachment of "AI" into search tools. https://techhub.social/@rayckeith/117061225151966686

It's interesting how this grocery chain has "Digital-Only Coupons" that you need an app (spyware) to activate -- and they'll just straight up send you notifications about advertisements...

I hope Elon's right and the internal contradictions of Capitialism 202X cause an instant reversal into Fully Autonomous Luxury Space Communism -- but maybe that's just a marketing gimmick to sell the idea that giving him more money will make everyone rich.

"The authors propose what they call a Contextual Copyleft AI License (CCAI) — a novel extension of copyleft licensing, which would treat generative AI models as derivative works and require AI developers training models on open-source code to make their architecture and training data freely available." - Yale researchers propose ‘copyleft’ rules for generative AI https://news.yale.edu/2026/06/15/yale-researchers-propose-copyleft-rules-generative-ai

The AI moves faster and breaks more things than any human ever could, and all it takes is a bunch of strip-mined rare earth minerals, fossil fuels augmented by solar/wind power, and potable drinking water. https://mastodon.nl/@Jigsaw_You/117053997405117645

I live in the Dairy Fiefdom of Marburger; but the local gas station's new owner has brought me Strange Creamer, from the Fiefdom of Turner's. Turner's is more famous for Iced Tea across the Greater Pittsburgh Area, and every gas station must have it, so consolidating suppliers is wise. They only had quarts instead of my usual pints, so it'll last twice as long, and wasn't anywhere close to twice the price as my usual pint of creamer, probably only a few...

So, it seems my prediction from ~2018 holds out... AI can never be Great because Humans have no idea what they want and even less of an idea of how to describe it. https://lipn.info/@mevenlennonbertrand/116997917683191056

Trying to find a job board that isn't just scams and remembered Dice.com exists; the front page main headline is "AI Skills. Bigger Chances. Better Jobs." and explains "With 73% of tech job postings now requiring AI skills, Dice gives your expertise the competitive edge it deserves." ... But the AI was supposed to make work easier, not create a whole new category of "Non-transferable Skills"

Employers didn't believe in transferrable skills before the AI Apocalypse, and they still don't - even though they got the "AI" because it allowed people with no skills at all to "write code"

#NaNoGenMo kinda lost its fun when all these LLMs hit, but also all the LLMs are real bad at story writing? Like, just the cheesiest schlock unless you really fiddle and edit well, at which point you might as well just write your own damned book. https://mastodon.social/@regehr/116904507121217956
