Yet another &quot;OMG i upgraded my package-based freebsd and nobody died!&quot;-post. Still slightly more steps than e.g. a debian dist-upgrade, but definitely an improvement. It&#39;s more obvious now what&#39;s happening. If one day the bootloader part is automated as well, i&#39;ll open a can of unhealthy soda for that ;-) #freebsd

Two days ago it was so scorchingly hot that the forest in front of my apartment was completely silent. Today was better, i actually heard at least a couple of birds, although they did the same as me and kept their activity to the bare minimum. This is really frightening.

Monday. On my way to work i see several local streams have dried out. I live in a country that was supposed to never have any water shortage. At work the force-enabled AI-welcome-screen on the company chat reminds me to drink water. Next thing is trying to make sense of an AI generated ticket that was created by a person clearly not knowing what they&#39;re doing. Then i have to review a bunch of vibe-code PRs that don&#39;t make any sense. The news report about a new Google #AI datacent...

@NiwlCraft Do you have a room where you can lock out the light with reasonable effort? If you don&#39;t have window shutters that close very completely next best thing is getting lightblocking(!) curtains and find a way to seal your windows (and probably the door) with them. No need to get the expensive ones from photography equipment shops. Some furniture shops also have them. You can use two layers to be safe. That&#39;s what i do :-)

@rye That whole thing looks so rusty that i recommend replacing it completely. This doesn&#39;t look safe anymore and apparently it&#39;s already malfunctioning.

The difference in quality between &quot;pydoc re&quot; and &quot;perldoc perlre&quot; is a thing. For whatever reason #python docs seem to be afraid to provide a bunch of easy usage examples. #perl docs are usually full of them.

My trusty #thinkpad x280 is perfectly fine for nearly everything i do. Except working on 30MB RAW files in #darktable. This is just totally beyond its capabilities. It works fine, nothing crashes, but everything is slooooow. Yes, i even made sure OpenCL support is enabled. But the puny &quot;GPU&quot; in there doesn&#39;t make a lot of difference. Now i wonder how much of an upgrade i&#39;d need to have a semi-fluid darktable experience.

Watched some random ARTE doc where a farmer explains that their cows give less milk (and overall have a happy looking life), but it has a way higher amount of fat and protein. And a non-trivial part of my brain is now occupied by the thought &quot;i bet that makes some really great cheese&quot;.

The offspring has expressed the wish that i should juggle for his birthday party. So i&#39;ve started re-training my #juggling skills and hopefully learn a few additional tricks as well :-)

Finally found the motivation to order some semi-decent usb wifi dongle and get the storage/backup host in the homelab going in a non-frustrating way. The ZFS on #alpine can finally do it&#39;s work :-) The plan to build this with #freebsd has failed for now. Sadly because modern wifi dongles seem to be quite the pita, and linux handles that better for now.
