  Out and about(sp?) running errands this afternoon and can already see signs of the impending weekend Canuckian invasion. Saw a few groups of forward scouts/Toronto Blue Jays fans malingering about the neighborhood in advance of this weekend's baseball games.   Big bada boom this morning about 30 miles north of us on Whidbey Island. "About 700 pounds of fireworks were inside the home on Smugglers Cove Road, according to Kolton Kellison, a firefighter with Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue. A “large explosion” shortly after firefighters arrived, threw one “into a truck” and knocked another to the ground, he said."   Dearest Annabelle, Out on our drive this afternoon, I managed to "pinch" the tip of my right middle finger while I was trying to gently close the car door. Hurt like a motherfuck. Was fine after 15 minutes. There were about a two dozen tiny, broken blood vessels that showed up immediately on the tip. But otherwise no bruising or apparent damage to the nail. Six hours later I've got this weird, incorrect dull pain if I move my middle finger in a specifc but, generally...

  Re-watched "Escape from New York" again last night. It still makes me oddly nostalgic for when my father used to take me to work on his job sites in Newark and Irvington, NJ in the mid '70s. It's probably why I have such a fondness for dystopian literature and films. Good times.

  Highly recommend watching this 1963 Czechoslovak sci-fi film Ikarie XB-1 I just re-watched it again after discovering it last year. Good stuff. As the trailer somewhat amusingly hypes, it's release(and impact) was at the interstices between the campy, cheesy effects and themes of the 50's and the later, more introspective films of the late '60s/'70s.
