  For most of my professional life, I’ve put my art in black frames. but to celebrate a recent milestone birthday, I’m framing all future work with white frames. It’s gonna take some getting used to, but I think I’m going to like the way the white brings out the color of my paintings..I’m getting rid of the gloomy grey wall next :) open to any suggestions.   Just fired this vase. if the design for this looks familiar to you, I made this while visiting Canada and was also learning about historic Korean ceramics at the same time. This decoration is my response to a very famous ancient Korean pot using the Canada goose as a substitute for the crane.   I had the opportunity to take a Rocket Kiln workshop with Lisa Orr her rocket kiln makes wood fire more environmentally friendly, which is awesome! Lisa is also an amazing artist and teacher.   There's a psychological toll to having to deal with an overwhelming tornado disaster ... not to mention the loss of all but 2 of my trees. I work my feelings out through my art, and I made this one yesterday.   We had some dramatic weather here in my part of Kentucky. 114mph storm winds took down 7-8 of the 9 trees in my yard...they just snapped. I had pots on my porch and losses there too--but remarkably not as bad as it could have been. At least the house is ok (and everyone who lives in it)...it's been over 24 hours and i'm still in shock over it all---wow! life can change fast #kentucky #weather #climateChange

  I just got home after an action packed workshop at Arrowmont with Lisa Orr--a potter and educator whose work I have admired for some time. She is also the inventor of the Rocket Kiln- a simple and extremely clean and efficient way to wood fire pottery using things that might otherwise go into a landfill.   I just finished making a mould for my new tile design---it's a goat 'admiring' a corn plant. Mould on the left-sloppy test press with clay on the right. other than one pesky air bubbly under the bird's wing (easy to fix) i'm happy with my casting!!!   yesterday was rough: making plaster moulds---lost one of my previous tiles, but I learned A LOT. Today, I'm back in my happy place, carving tiles. My background is 2d Art, but this fox and flower is probably my most sculptural and volumetric tile yet.
