  I have a theory: tax prep software is intentionally bad (slow, bad flow, poorly worded prompts, yadda, yadda). If it worked smoothly, then people might think they could do their taxes without it.

  Yesterday I had a disturbing experience. The temperature in Philadelphia never got out of the teens, but I summoned my inner New Englander and went out to run errands on foot. Given the temperature, and my desire to protect my face, I pulled on a balaclava. Approaching the main shopping district, there was a 60-something man coming the other way who stopped dead in his tracks with an "oh shit" expression on his face.
