Yesterday I had a disturbing experience. The temperature in Philadelphia never got out of the teens, but I summoned my inner New Englander and went out to run errands on foot. Given the temperature, and my desire to protect my face, I pulled on a balaclava. Approaching the main shopping district, there was a 60-something man coming the other way who stopped dead in his tracks with an "oh shit" expression on his face. I pulled the balaclava off, and said hello. There's a lot to be angry about right now. The fact that a piece of functional outdoor wear is now a symbol of oppression is only a small part of that. But it's hitting me particularly hard.
