  Thinking about programmers losing their coding skills because of their reliance on AI tools made me wonder if there was some other industry where heavy automation led to concerns over loss of skills. And yes, there is: airplane pilots. They train manual flight maneuvers regularly to preserve pilot skills, because when the automation fails is precisely when you need a skilled operator.   Don't you love it when you try a new miraculous programming tool, it begins by printing out reasonable-looking code, then starts spewing a random French sentence, and finally locks into a single word and spits 4 pages worth of it until it dies? It's great
