#WritersCoffeeClub has been doing a series of questions about critique and constructive criticism, which I've largely been too busy/distracted to answer (oops). But it does seem like a relevant point to share the article I wrote a while back giving guidance on good critique: https://red-pens-and-playwriting.ghost.io/the-key-to-good-critique/ I've shared it before, so a lot of you have probably read it. If not, have a squiz! It may be useful for you if you are in a position of p...

Based on the number of people I know to have been having migraines this weekend (so far 4, including myself), I think it is safe to say there is weather fuckery afoot.

I'm supposed to be writing a review, but I keep getting distracted by the Hozier playlist I'm listening to. The man just has so many bangers!

Now that the review and lunch are out of the way, it's time to get my editing brain on and return to The Missing Mortimer! A couple months of cooling should be enough.

RE: https://mastodon.nz/@jojoinabox/116821192438728935 My blog platform has just dropped a gift link feature, so now I can just give y'all the article without a paywall! I'm going to like this feature. 😺 Anyway, read about making things funny: https://red-pens-and-playwriting.ghost.io/how-do-we-make-things-funny/?gift=Xg5XBN8ENWTDLNBCHZAAL5Jt5xH659nA #WordWeavers fyi

Oh yeah, I've got a new review up that may be of interest to fellow #Ōtautahi residents: https://flatcityfieldnotes.com/2026/07/06/review-shakespeares-greatest-comedy-wit-energy-and-infectious-enthusiasm/ If you haven't checked out the Lyttelton Arts Festival yet, I highly recommend it! There's loads of cool stuff going on.

#ScribesAndMakers 7/7: What do you find compelling in a podcast? If you don't like podcasts, is there anything that could make you interested? All the podcasts I listen to are about history, so that's a start. Even better is to have a host who is a particular favourite historian of mine, like Dr Eleanor Janega (I follow two podcasts she co-hosts).

#PennedPossibilities 1063 — How do the skies in your WIP’s world look different from the sky that we know? Smoggy. 1920s London was a lot smoggier than it is now.

If you're wondering how my ADHD is going, I forgot to put chicken in tonight's chicken pot pie before putting it in the oven. 🙃

It took far longer than I expected, but I have finally finished this lovely cowl for my grandma! I absolutely adore how the pattern came out. 😻 @fiberarts #Knitting #HandmadeNZ

#PennedPossibilities 952: How do you use social media as an author? Not effectively! I just don't like being Perceived Online all that much, tbh... Not the best way to promote my work, but happier for me. 🤷
