@yukiwarashi not all progressives! but there are a lot of people who describe themselves as "progressives" who worry a lot about attracting the "white working class" and want to soft-pedal issues (like shifting money away from law enforcement) that will scare them off -- and instead focusing on economic anxiety. Just in the short term, of course 🤣 Nothing new, but I certainly saw a lot of it last summer.

@yukiwarashi yes, and the "progressive" equivalents of the white moderates MLK talked about.

@jdp23@indieweb.social @hannu_ikonen @emmalbriant @ubiquity75 Case in point about how some conversations aren't happening here: @emilymbender 's points about the diversity of people being discussed on a certain podcast, amplified on the other site by @timnitGebru @mmitchell_ai and others. I haven't seen it mentioned here. And if it did come up here, just imagine the reply-guyism and mansplaining that would ensue!

@stevecheckoway good news though: #16 seems to have gone okay!

An interesing announcement bu @AusSocialMods about CWs -- reflecting the wishes of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. Worth reading for instance admins and others thinking about CW policies in general! https://aus.social/@AusSocialMods/109703138248943223 [ #MissedQuoteBoost -- the context for why I'm quoting is important, and is best read before the orginal post. @harrisj C code I wrote in the 90s is still being used. FORTRAN is timeless!

@markigra @josh @czimm_economist Useful, thanks! Has anybody looked at demographic distributions on these lists? Social networks often have "rich get richer" dynamics for followers, and so biases in the lists are likely to get magnified and become steadily harder and harder to compensate for.

@BlackAzizAnansi yep. And I can see from the other responses I'm not the only one!

@Tbeauchamp ShotSpotter's own numbers show they change the results 10% of the time was important new information ... they can try to spin it but it clearly highlights that their "97% accuracy" is a lie even with their own numbers. Before this, there wasn't any info about the frequency. Agreed though it's not surprising! #StopShotspotter @ben

@elipariser @ubiquity75 I'm sorry to report that while we used to have a huge lead in Edible Arrangement technology but after years of underinvestment, there's now an Edible Arrangement Gap

@ubiquity75 Well, actually, what you're not understanding is ... (1/2048) "I'm working on an updated version of "Mastodon, a partial history". Is it okay I screenshot and link to this?

@aeva @mcc tiny but affluent. are there games that could get a $1K price point from a few thousand people or companies initially? and of course the hope is that hardware prices come down over time so the market grows.
