Heads up for anyone using Dropbox on Windows. If you rely on right clicking the tray icon and accessing the menu of options, it seems that sometime within the last few days, at least on my Windows 10 system, they've silently changed everything. I have absolutely no idea how to access most of what I used to be able to access. One of the many reasons I wish there was a third-party, accessible, bloat-free Dropbox client for Windows.

@FreakyFwoof@universeodon.com Oh do I need to update the server? I don't think I have the latest one. If that's the problem, it should say "server too old" or something of the like.

We use the VaultWarden alternative BitWarden server. This morning I woke up to my dad not being able to log into his BitWarden desktop client. He'd enter his master password, and instead of unlocking his vault, it'd immediately give a rather unhelpful error indicating that an unexpected error has occurred. During troubleshooting, I deliberately entered an incorrect master password with the same result, proving that it wasn't getting far enough to even try to unlock the vault. Turns o...

Okay. So this post should make @FreakyFwoof@universeodon.com and @batworx@mastodon.africa either very happy, very pissed, or something. They should at least be amused. Early this morning I decided to give Claude a crack at figuring out what was wrong with an Apple II program from 1978. The program is called Appleodion, and the file I sent Claude plays three Bach fugues. Part of the third fugue is corrupted. Amazingly, Claude was able to deduce the entirely undocumented (except in the Integer BAS...

@TheQuinbox LOL why does the Fedra portable zip have all its file timestamps set to midnight on January 1, 1980?

I may have said this before, but I would love to see someone write an NVDA Remote client for Blazie mode on the BT Speak. Sadly I lack the programming knowledge to do it.

I've just migrated the last of my old Mailman discussion mailing lists from my own server to Groups.io. This one is BlindApple, for discussion of Apple IIe and IIgs computers as used by the blind in the 1980's and beyond, especially with the Echo speech synthesizer. Right now it gets practically no traffic except during times when someone asks something or someone new joins and has questions, etc. If this sort of thing interests you, join at https://groups.io/g/blindapple or blin...

This post is in response to today's Access On podcast from @AccessOn which I boosted a few hours ago. Happy fiftieth birthday, Apple Computer Company! As part of helping @JonathanMosen produce this podcast, I did something which I should have done years ago, namely, creating an updated version of my MessApple package from 2013. This hasn't been tested by many people, but I'm publicly unveiling it here tonight. If you're familiar with my MessApple package, you&...

My dad recently got an Orbit Writer. He's been playing with it, connected to his iPhone in Human Interface Device (HID) mode, where he's trying to use the NVDA Remote Controller app. A lot of the function keys like Alt, Home, etc. just aren't working. We've contacted Orbit technical support, but haven't heard anything back. Does anyone have any thoughts about this, any way to fix it, etc? Please boost for reach. Thanks. @MewProjects

For years I've had some addresses on a domain I host that forward to certain other external addresses. I administer the server for an organization of writers with disabilities. All example addresses here are fictitious. Let's say I want an Email address committee@my.domain so people can write to a certain committee. It needs to be able to accept Email from anyone, and forward those Emails to, let's say, committee.member@gmail.com, another.member@hotmail.com, some.other.m...

Since 2003 we've had a Kawai CP150 digital piano in our home. The other day, as part of downsizing for our upcoming move, we sold it. I never did record the demo songs and Concert Magic songs on it, though I always meant to. I do, however, have version 2.0 of its operating system in seven files, meant to be copied to floppy disks to allow an upgrade of the firmware. Some very simple searching for text strings (mainly song titles and lyrics) leads me to believe at least the Concert Magic...

Okay, so our generator's doing the weird thing again. We've all diagnosed it as a partially frozen regulator on our propane tank. What you're about to hear is AC hum recorded while this is going on. UPS's do not like what you're about to hear, almost certainly because the AC frequency is wobbling back and forth all the time. This is *not* normal!
