Personal views. Director of standards for OASIS for a decade, and then its general counsel & CPO, launching and coaching cooperative open source and open standards projects, mostly in cybersec, AI security, trade, civic tech, and data protection. Still a practicing lawyer, as well. Alignment lawful-good in a chaotic-neutral industry. (Otherwise I probably would have stayed on Wall Street.) Ex-corporate law partner, ex-Minnesota, LA-based. Still also @jamiexml on Bluesky and (very occasionally) X/birdsite.

RE: https://mas.to/@OrionKidder/116971054412343065 This is a really good take. Law, ethics and society have NOT really parsed out the significance of the differences between something being seen or heard by a human, and recorded. Scott McNeely was wrong about #privacy. But it's not in the interest of data profiteers to acknowledge this. #tort #FlintstonesLawsforJetsonsLife

RE: https://mstdn.social/@osnews/116965092743942475 Thank you to @onepict@chaos.social and @jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net for this. My primary curiosity for digging in here wasn't the vendor or anti-vendor politics point, or the freedom-of-coder-communities-to-organize point, but rather… how exactly are they enforcing this? #AI #antislop #slop #detection #FOSS

Regarding https://social.wildeboer.net/@jwildeboer/116860407627060773 : #AI #code #contracts «Laissez faire à Georges.» Or perhaps «à Claude». Cc: @jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net Even in the earliest days of e-contracting, crafters of model statutes seemed more tolerant of forgiveness and imprecision about responsibility or liability for an act performed by e-agents, than traditionally apply to a human agent acting on behalf of a principal (the Respondeat Superior doctrine).

Find something more worthy to do with that opportunity than just enriching your own sorry self. "America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination, and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand." — Harry S. Truman #July4th 3/3

On this #July4th, we're both very proud and very privileged to have grown up and made our careers during the American Century. https://bit.ly/amer-century Equally interested to see what comes next. 🎆🎇 Considering how technology has changed the world, don't just guess which boss will lead the next one. The right answer is that we're now in the #DecentralizedCentury. The next savior is all of us. #July4th 1/3
