I've just been reminded that I once created a competition for the MathsJam Competition Competition. You had to decide which of three pre-Raphaelite pictures of people asking for hair products was best arranged -- my entry to the Competition Competition was the Compare Titian Comb Petition Composition Competition. It's probably for the best that I left it on the train.

Marathon stat from tomorrow's DMFT: the Weymouth Parkrun course record is 14:47. Sawe's run on Saturday was equivalent to beating that by about 40 seconds, then running another seven-and-a-half parkruns at the same pace. An excellent stat: when Joe Root was out for 50 in the Boxing day test match of 2021, his batting average dropped from 50.015873016 to 50.015789474, a change of (it says here) 0.000083542 -- the smallest-ever non-zero change from one innings to the next. Question: at that point, how many runs had he scored, and how many innings had he completed? (Spoiler your answers, please.)

I had a fabulous evening at open mic last night. Not many performers, but there were some terrific ones. I ended up doing two sets (I did Do You Do Any Dylan? in the first and the host took umbrage, so I did Tangled Up In Bob in the second. It has my favourite stupid joke in it: "So many CDs that it's tricky to keep track / I have a Saddam Hussein storage system: I keep them in Iraq") and the evening ended with the host persuading a brilliant-but-shy singer, David, to b...

After discussions at open mic last night, I've been persuaded to put my one attempt at recording an album (back in 2002, on a steam-powered black-and-white four-track) on Bandcamp: https://kensson.bandcamp.com/album/a-bright-cold-day-in-april-2 I guess I'm getting the band* back together. * solo
