Out of all the talks that I saw at #stateofthemapus2026 this one was by far the coolest: using OSM data in combination with census data to calculate the hypothetical bike trips of every student within the attendance areas of Madison high schools. In particular, they compared the most direct route with the safest route to find out how much time we are wasting of all these students. Bravo, Ben and @haraldkliems@fosstodon.org ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bd0kfZnVYOU

Last year when I moved across Minneapolis, I challenged myself to move all my furniture and possessions by bike. Definitely my most ambitious submission for the #CarryShitOlympics to date! https://streets.mn/2026/06/08/moving-my-entire-apartment-by-bike/

I highly recommend playing Guess Who but with a house rule that you can only ask subjective questions. Eg "does this person know how to open a PDF?" "Has this person made it to yellow belt in karate?" "Is this person an art teacher?" Etc

Here we go, this is the kind of fight I want to be seeing out of my state's government! https://www.mprnews.org/story/2026/05/18/watch-minnesota-prosecutors-announce-charges-against-ice-agent

Really great points here about making sure bus and bike projects work together! It is really frustrating how spotty St Paul's follow through on their bicycle plan is. Use projects like this to your advantage! https://streets.mn/2026/04/16/h-line-bikeway-saint-anthony-park/

Day 19 #30DaysofBiking Went to a birthday party in St Paul. After 30 minutes, my partner said, "we must be getting close, feels like we've been riding for quite a while." I laughed a little at that, because back when I lived in St Paul, that was about the minimum time to ride to most events. Living in Minneapolis has us quite spoiled.

A fan who got to ride the Zamboni between periods at today's Minnesota Frost game unfurled an anti-ICE banner and got a standing ovation! After a few minutes a staff member took it away from her and got lots of boos. #minnesotafrost #PWHL #iceout

Spotify notified me that they are removing a bunch of old podcast episodes of mine from their platform for copyright infringement. These episodes use songs from Kevin MacLeod, who famously publishes all his songs under a CC license. Now, here's the kicker: one of the episodes is a lesson about copyright law, and goes into great depth explaining the legal framework that allows us to use Kevin's music without asking his permission. 😆

A very personal look at the effects of induced demand. https://streets.mn/2026/03/20/i-am-exactly-the-person-who-needs-i-94/ > I drive I-94 to Stillwater every day because it’s rational. Here’s why that makes me the best argument for tearing it out.

Well, @pluralistic got one thing wrong in _Little Brother_: we didn't need a high-profile terrorist attack for the US government to start disappearing ordinary people off the streets and making everyone seek out secure digital messaging systems. They just did it without provocation.

Next time you find yourself talking to someone who believes a street is being reconstructed because bike lanes are being added, here's your reference guide to refute that: https://www.bikemn.org/no-that-road-isnt-being-rebuilt-because-of-the-big-bad-bike-lobby/
