  Reminder that Australia will undergo a national test of the new AusAlert system at 2pm AEST 27 July. This will sound an audible siren on all networked devices, even if they are switched to silent mode. If you or someone you know has a secret safety device (phone, tablet, smart watch) that needs to remain hidden, it must be switched off or in flight mode for 24 hours on either side of the scheduled alert.   When I’m working on coding projects I occasionally worry that I don’t know what I’m doing and people will laugh at how embarrassingly amateur my code is. But then sometimes my Windows laptop can’t shut down at the end of the work day because “the application ‘Shutting Down’ is still open” and I feel better.

  Attention transport and energy nerds!!! For reasons that should be obvious,I am curious about the reliance of farming on diesel vehicles. Seems that even heavy rig trucks are available in electric now, but why not tractors? Is this just a matter of a delayed investment pipeline or is the technology not there yet for some reason, or are the industry monopolists just not interested, or..? Running electric harvesters off solar seems like a no brainer somewhere like Australia's wheat belt.

  Some good news!!!! The #Copyright Amendment Bill 2026 passed both houses yesterday.
