Currently having a fun little time checking my EndeavourOS system for packages that were compromised in the recent AUR malware attack. As far as I can tell, I've avoided disaster - a scan found no compromised packages and I didn't update anything during the critical period. It has gotten me a bit more wary of the Arch User Repository (AUR), however. I've always heard people say "you can't trust anything in the AUR, it's a free-for-all" -...

This Thursday, there are local elections in the United Kingdom, which I need to vote in. Time to check out my tactical vote! In the UK, we use the "First Past The Post" voting system, which means whoever gets the most votes wins. Unfortunately, that system has a flaw: if there's one super-racist party and lots of progressive parties, the progressive parties have to share the progressive votes between them, while the super-racist party gets ALL of the super-racist votes. This mean...

I was trying to figure out where all the space on my hard drive went, since my home directory didn't seem to account for a huge percentage of it. Eventually I realized it was the pacman cache. Running `pacman -Sc` to clean up unneeded files got me back 70 GB of space! #linux #arch #pacman

Continuing my perusal of Ageless Linux - which I still think is utterly brilliant - they have an interesting argument for not complying with the California age verification law, which is simply this: - If the OS refuses to collect age data, no children can be identified. - If no children are identified, no child can be affected. - If no child is affected, the OS provider cannot be fined. Or, more succinctly: the data you provide is exactly what the authorities will use to fine you. They point...

I entered the 7-Day Roguelike Challenge again this year! This year, I really wanted to do a pony game because the PICO-8 barely has any, and thus my entry is: The Tao of Tree Hugger https://hawthornbunny.itch.io/the-tao-of-tree-hugger It's a game starring best hippie pone on a spiritual journey through a dungeon. This year I tried to steer away from the traditional hack-and-slash and made it more about character advancement, by which I mean getting high on mushrooms. #7drl #7drl2026 #rog...

I've been following this game for a little while (since Birmingham Comic Con last year, where I met Rob Hewson), and now the Kickstarter has launched! Hyper Sentinel Fusion 2 is a pew pew game which is a combination of Uridium and Paradroid, yet for some reason they didn't think to call it Uridroid or Paradium. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/robhwson/hyper-sentinel-fusion-2 #uridium #paradroid #hypersentinelfusion2

I've really enjoyed Necto Ulim's remake of the Unreal Tournament soundtrack, and since they're doing the music for this upcoming game I feel obligated to spread the word. https://store.steampowered.com/app/4267870/Washington_Prime/ Washington Prime is a retro FPS featuring all the chonky geometry, janky sprites, and bad live acting of the late 1990s. And lots of pixelly blood. It looks really fun. #fps #steam #retro
