  The purpose of Medicare and Medicaid is for us to get the healthcare we need without going broke. Due to President Trump, low-income people on Medicare will have to pay more for their prescription drug coverage next year. Trump also started a pilot project to require prior authorizations for people on Medicare and gave private companies a financial reward for rejecting prior authorizations.

Even those who have substantial savings risk having them completely wiped out by the cost of long-term care. “The median cost of assisted living has risen 44 percent in five years, nearly double the rate of inflation.” For many, long-term care will wipe out their adult children’s savings, too, leaving them with nothing for their own retirement.
