@malteengeler I think it'd be easy technically to set something up among friends, but much harder (for many) to unlearn this dependency on algorithmic playlists and recommendations. Streaming platforms have successfully deadened the joy of music discovery.

@mschfr Genuinely cool, I admit, but I'm not sure music enthusiast would be particuarly happy with OGG Vorbis files at 160kbit/s or "reencoded to OGG Opus at 75kbit/s". (Leaving aside Spotify, and I assume other music streaming platforms, oftentimes only have one release available from each album.) At 6k, you could probably build a really nice digital collection from the ground up.

@Ostrobothnia@toot.community I don't quite get what your link is trying to (dis)prove. Help me understand?

@Ostrobothnia@toot.community I see, thanks for elaborating. I can see how critics come to a different conclusion, in that having those particular enterprise partnerships forthwith be part of the budget -- a maybe more reliable part of the budget than user donations and therefore difficult to back out of -- and see that as compromising to Wikipedia's (financial) autonomy, but you obviously don't have to share that perspective.
