We went for an afternoon walk and there were exciting birds! First we heard a hawk calling. I got out the monocular and we saw a red-shouldered hawk sitting in a tree, its reddish front almost glowing in the sun. A bit later there was a ruckus, and a bird landed in the tree in front of us. It was a pileated woodpecker! Another one was calling in the distance. We got to watch it pecking at a dead branch. #birds 1/2
