Should Mastodon embrace video as a medium? (More than now, obviously). I'm afraid to ask this lol. Is it a can of worms?

I hope this marks the beginning of the end for corporate Democrats. However that looks like.

If localized, on-device AI models gain a foothold in the market, it could destroy the American AI industry—an industry propped up by the increasingly thinning notion that AI must be an off-device service. Journalists aren't being curious enough about how companies like Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI might be responding to that threat. Is there not anyone thinking about this? @404mediaco do I just tag you and trust you got it? That's how that works, right?

You know that feeling you get when you’re on a microblogging platform for too long? You kind of feel horrible and vaguely angry and anxious. I’ve never once felt like that on Mastodon. That’s gotta be worth something.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@fromjason/116174381733551327 Yup, so looks like Rutger Bregman is an advocate-turned-corporate shill: > Years ago, Bregman gained popularity for criticizing philanthropy as as a self-serving loophole the rich use to avoid paying taxes, but today his non-profit appears to be openly enticing wealthy philanthropists with promises of tax benefits. I don't know who's heading up Anthropic's marketing/public relations department, but whoev...

Bluesky is microblogging for people who don't microblog, mixed with career capital-p Posters, and it's glued all together with liberalism's worst impulses. And honestly, god bless you if this is not your experience. But I've never had fun scrolling BS. It's like a parody of liberal late-stage Twitter and Shrimp-Jesus Facebook. If they don't figure a way to make some homegrown celebrity posters soon, it's a wrap, I think. And I sincerely d...

I guessed whether a face was real or AI generated and got it right 19/20 times. And I know exactly why lol. When that "this person doesn't exist" website came out, I was having trouble sleeping so some nights I'd just lay in bed and refreshed the page until I fell asleep. 😭 Is this a marketable skill? Can I work for the FBI?

#3GoodThings 1. The Publix brand Jamaican beef patties are delicious. I mean, for a frozen food. The pastry is so flakey and it's all very flavorful. 2. The cover of The Sign of The Times by Sandra Hüller on Project Hail Mary is beautiful. I would totally listen to her cover if they release it. 3. Thunderstorm season is here. I love falling asleep to the rain.

Do y'all like Succession? Have I shared my Succession Theory of Everything? How every character is an allegory for a specific American power structure or concept? Okay, first. I just want to say that I love this show so damn much. I've never watched a show that begs for analysis as much as Succession. It's so well written it makes me not want to be a writer because who could ever top this show? Okay, okay. Let me take a stab at this 😬 I can't promise it&#3...

The problem with the corporate world is everyone's reading the 48 Laws of Power before learning basic communication concepts. Like, stop trying to amass an empire from your cubicle, Travis, and go read Bird by Bird so people can understand your emails.

I'm so hopeful that they can pull off a good Sinners sequel. Either a brand new story with all new actors. Or maybe they pick up in the 90s where they left off. The former seems the most interesting.

Fostering an environment where the only tech we're allowed to criticize is the tech we immediately stop using makes us weird and territorial and guarantees we stop making objective observations. Because then it just becomes trying not to be a hypocrite. Using Proton is still better than ad-tech email. That doesn't mean we don't call them out. It's not our job to protect them. It's their job to earn goodwill. And their rationalization was dog shit. That&a...
