New trend I'm seeing is that certain applicants are completely rewriting their whole CV tailored to the job profile to make them sound like a great fit.   Made the mistake of putting data into #onedrive when I had free 5TB. Now they've done a rug pull and i'm getting scaled back to 100GB i'm trying to get my data out and i'm getting throttled into oblivion. Never again.

  vscode/cursor/claude are horrible software that are really not designed with networked filesystems in mind (or they don't care). apart from the obvious security implications of extensions running on the remote server, it is regularly scanning 20,000 files per second with ripgrep and fileWatcher. unfortunately users can't be relied upon to implement recommendations so I need to find a server side throttle to use.

  Spent much of the afternoon tidying the study. Good news is that I have room on the desk again for my handy programmable macropad. I just added excalidraw shortcuts to it, since I've been using the excellent obsidian+excalidraw plugin recently (by @zsviczian )

  Try asking an LLM not to speak until a trigger word is said. It will fail abjectly, and give all sorts of reasons why it doesn't need to follow the simple instruction it agreed to. there was nothing unsafe about my instruction, but some design rule overrode the instruction despite claiming that it would comply - in fact the bot suggested this method in the first place. Extrapolate this issue to real world tasks and you have a big problem.

  Every time I have to update firmware on Dell servers, I am grateful that the Dell OME tool exists. The Lenovo Xclarity is a disaster area. And doing this stuff manually is unthinkable. Just bulk select click a bunch of servers and then wait for the updates to chug through. Saves so much time and is actually sensible. #sysadmin

  In a couple of hours today, I installed proxmox on 5 nodes, bonded the nics, created a cluster, added the licence subscription, DNS challenge LE certs, created a ceph pool. This sort of thing used to take a week or so with vmware vcenter. #proxmox

  Story of my day. Couldn't migrate a vm. Investigating .. an openssl error which turned out to be non jumbo mtu on a switch port. nothing was what it seemed.

  @neil motion sensor lighting has been common in offices for about twenty years..they have no excuses
