Okay, so, err, #ollama runs surprisingly well on CPU-only when using smaller models. And now I have a cursed idea. No, not content generation, but meta-data handling and grammar checking.

okay, trying to find a "sane" commit on libgd's main branch is not too easy. The current stable version seems to start to fall apart in newer PHP versions (mainly the test suite, nothing to worry in prod), so I'm really tempted to get an intermediate version in #gentoo...

In other #gentoo news: Yay, I figured out how to use the "multiprocessing" eclass for multi-threaded testing!

Now that’s a weird one. Enabling the test suite causes spurious error at the later install stage… probably some leftovers being pulled in or variable override? #gentoo #development

Friendly reminder: Package updates work *way* faster if you hit the "Enter" key to actually start the update. #sysadmin

Okay, so _something_ (either Debian or Proxmox update) nuked my custom sysctl.conf because apparently now the sysctl rules live below /etc/sysctl.d/. No, the file was not moved to the new location, it was DELETED. And yup, that broke IPv6 on the VMs because no more NDP forwarding. GREAT.

This weekend's objective: bump the ScummVM Snap package to core24 and the current GNOME extension. And yes, I still have to re-do some of the Snaps published under my name...

Weekend project: setting up Forgejo, neatly packaged into one Docker file that provides all components: * PostgreSQL as database engine * Redis for caching * Anubis as WAF * Caddy for the reverse proxy * Forgejo itself Anything I could add? 😁

Okay, one issue I have with Forgejo right now is that somehow the cache TTL for commit metadata in the web interface is too short. I have it at the current defaults, and it looks like Forgejo refetches the commit metadata every hour or so :/ Any idea if there's a background job I can trigger to automagically keep the cache "warm"?

The great folks at @revolutionsoftware are back! After remastering the first part of the Broken Sword saga, now it is time for Smoking Mirror! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/revolution-software/broken-sword-smoking-mirror-reforged (Disclaimer: I backed this myself, I do not get paid for this post, I just love the games)

In the previous part of my ongoing series to save "The Masters of the Elements", we finally fixed the game itself by removing the broken library and replacing it with a more modern alternative. However, we are not done yet - there are still some minor issues left to fix. Let’s go! https://fabulous.systems/posts/2025/08/saving-the-masters-of-the-elements-part-4/ #retrogaming #retrocomputing #digipres

While working with the game files of Masters of the Elements, I found omething exciting hidden in one of the script files: Multiple, undocumented cheat and debug codes. Well, they were undocumented up until now, so without further ado, but a hefty spoiler warning, let’s see how we can bend the laws of time, train bats, or get infinitely lucky. https://fabulous.systems/posts/2025/10/saving-the-masters-of-the-elements-part-5/ #retrogaming #retrocomputing #digipres

Saving the Masters of the Elements From Getting Lost to Time: Epilogue. Every journey comes to an end, and this is the end of a very personal journey that started back in May 2025. I finally proudly present: The patch files required to play “Masters of the Elements” on Windows 2000 and higher, up to Windows 11. https://fabulous.systems/posts/2025/10/saving-the-masters-of-the-elements-epilogue/ #retrogaming #retrocomputing

While I brought Masters of the Elements to Windows 11, my fellow ScummVM co-lead @sev worked on bringing the title to ScummVM! Yes, Masters of the Elements is one of the test titles for our Macromedia Director 6 implementation. This title is FUN, or, in other news: 1.5 Weeks of Pain. https://www.patreon.com/posts/1-5-weeks-of-142744302 #retrogaming #retrocomputing #adventuregame
