Today I think I'll spare a thought for all the level designers out there, who have spent countless hours modelling the ceilings that almost no one will ever pay attention to. But I did. (This time. Of course, it helps that nothing was trying to kill me at this point.) #AlienIsolation

Computer games have come a long way towards being accepted as mainstream, of course, but I can't help feeling we still have some ways to go.

Today marks the fifth anniversary of my least favorite @scummvm fix ever: Patching the cracked version of Maniac Mansion sold on GOG and Steam. (I think even Limited Run Games used it.) Every keypad in the game will accept any code as long as the last digit is incorrect. 🙄 https://github.com/scummvm/scummvm/commit/07617f8c5f7b136fb0b873b52e5199654af9ec9c The bug was reported to both Disney and GOG several times, along with test cases technical explanations and suggested fixes, to no avail. #...

Random Monkey Island memory: When I first played Monkey Island 2, I got to the point where you call LucasArts support for help. One of the things you can ask about is the "stump joke", and I had no idea what it was talking about. Not only did I not know, it turns out I never had a chance to, because the joke had been cut from the version I played. It wasn't until later that I finally got to see what it was all about. Maybe I should have called support...? #RetroGamin...

I don't know if it will ever cease to amaze me that what was once state-of-the-art (or at the very least state-of-SOME-art) now runs on a smartphone. It may not be the best way of running them - in fact, it can be pretty darn awkward - but the very fact that they run at all...

Random Monkey Island memory: The first time I played The Secret of Monkey Island, and was told to go to the Scumm Bar, I completely missed the sign and walked right past it. (It probably didn't help that my monitor was a bit dark.) I guess I could have saved myself the embarrassment if I have bought the Sega CD version instead. But then I would have suffered the even worse embarrassment of playing the worst version of the game! #RetroGaming #MonkeyIsland #LucasArts #LucasFilmGames

I don't know what the story behind the "HELP! Charity Compilation" is, and I'm familiar with less than half of the games on it. But it's nice it is to see that they went with some genuinely good ones, rather than just scraping the bottom of the shareware barrel. I know Prince of Persia and The Case of the Serrated Scalpel alone would have been well worth the $9.50 (shipping cost included) I ended up paying for it. Or at least it would if I didn&#39...

In 1 Kings 18, the prophets of Baal were expected to be able to demonstrate the power of their god with a tangible, no-nonsense miracle on demand, or suffer the consequences. Why don't we hold all religions to that standard?

Today's "I never saw Zork II do that before" bug is... The JIGS-UP routine doesn't kill the player, it kills the current actor. That's a feature. But when a timer routine is run, it doesn't change the current actor back to the player. So simply by talking to the robot, I can save myself from death by timed event. I had hoped to use this on the Wizard, but apparently his action routine terminates too early. That too may be a bug, but one that c...
