#WritersCoffeeClub May 12. If not in your current format, in what format would you write? I come from a screenwriting background. Been in pitch sessions with Hollywood studios and television networks, but sadly never picked up for production on that level. But I’ve written/directed plenty of indie stuff. I’ve switched over to novel writing now that I have a kid. Much easier to find time to write a novel than get a whole production together. Lockdowns also really hurt my network.

#WordWeavers May 12. What role does romantic love play in your story? It’s a thriller about a woman looking for her missing toddler and husband. So, her husband is sketched in absentia. Domestic memories of neck rubs and welcome home kisses in conflict with what she’s learning about his secret life as a domestic terrorist.

#WritersCoffeeClub May 13. Follow-up: if writing was not your "thing," what would your "thing" be? I was in a regionally touring rock band (shoutout if you’ve actually heard of Mephisto) when I should have been in college. These days, I occasionally bring the house down at karaoke. Sold most of my gear and just have an acoustic guitar now, like a guy getting rid of the muscle car for a minivan.

#WordWeavers May 15. What type of writing (novels, shorts, poetry, etc) comes more naturally for you? I tried writing some shorts and flash fiction and was honestly shocked at how quickly iI went over typical word counts on them. So, novels it is.

#ScribesAndMakers May 15. What's going well with your creative work so far this month? At the Washington Writers Conference, I was able to pitch 1:1 for four agents. All four requested pages, one even requested the full manuscript. Downside is, now I need to actually finish the project, which has been going less great!

#WordWeavers 16: Would your WIP still work if you changed the gender of your MC? No. It’s a retelling of the annunciation from the POV of a less-than-willing Mary.

#PennedPossibilities 1015 — Were any of the scenes in your WIP inspired by your own experiences? For sure. Tapped both my parental anxiety and some specific things about both my son and my goddaughter in writing the domestic details of a two-year-old.
