The cafe I used to lurk at to work from finally reopened under the new owners. It's much less a "home away from home" and moreof "generic cafe vibes" :( And most importantly, no more comfy chairs On the search for a new third place to lurk and work in still, sigh

First side project / non employment related coding for a while and it's to make a Magic the Gathering Mulligan generator that handles the card "Serum Powder" in Python. Mainly because that card has such a weird effect that typical mulligan simulators don't handle it. #mtg #magicthegathering

Determining how much my actual views on LLMs are safe to express in any given interaction certainly expends brain power.

No I don't want to use the Claude skill thank you. Can I ask for a document explaining what you need me to do instead please

Tips for finding cool tattoo artists in the era of Meta enshittification? A lot of places have their examples on insta, but AI search and suggestions have made this a pain. Searching directly with location and tattoo in insta now gives you a bunch of crap that doesn't have the tag itself. Cool stuff but not flying to Perth just for a tattoo.

Re: https://meta.masto.host/@GamingNews/116840278402230797 At least if I can't get any new tech jobs for refusing to use AI, at least open source will have me?

My fave café to start work from is closed for renovations while switching over to the new owners. My attempt to make small talk at the chain café I went to instead did not feel the same :(

Now I have a giant tablet for reading textbooks on. Second hand but feels pristine to me. Traded some old tech and consoles in to get at a discount. It was this size so I could read sheet music I download off the internet and it turned out that a tablet was better bang for buck than a big e-ink reader. No pen included, but we will figure out as I go how to best use this.

Tips for surviving cognitive dissonance of working in a role that management would love to automate out of existence? Asking for a friend.

TIL that the nominal voltage in Australia (except WA) is 230V now. Apparently QLD was the one late to the party because they only finished changing from 240V in 2020 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AS/NZS_3112

Just because you already made the thing you want with AI does not mean that we are going to staple it into production. Questions like "why do we need this", "are there other solutions that have been considered" and "what is your plan for who is going to support this" are not optional just because you already spent half an hour prompting your proof of concept.

Appreciation post for mods and admins in the fediverse who make sure that gross crap that is the norm on other social media does not always need to be the norm here Thanks for all the work ya'll do.
