I'm downloading a large game via Steam at the same time as I upload a large file to my NAS... and the download's going over eight times faster. (Via Ethernet, not wireless.) I can't tell if this is because my NAS is ancient, the drives in it are slow, or SMB is that lousy. I suppose I'll test from my Linux system later tonight. For now, though, it feels ridiculous that by time this 8 GB file transfers to another system on the same internal network, I'll have downloaded around...

It baffles me when people ask, "I used AI and got this answer, is this right?" You obviously trust a real person to know the correct answer, so why even go to "AI" in the first place? The sooner the world is rid of this poisonous, brain-eating bullshit, the better.

It's kinda fucked up, watching the lead dev of the Furnace chiptune tracker alienate people left and right, 'cause they just give up – rightfully so! – and drop off of the project's Discord and are never heard from again, so from the dev's perspective the "problem" of people who disagree with him is "solved". And I used to think he wasn't a typical tech-bro. I can't wait for a viable fork.

What bothers me is that I have to label the Atom feeds from my websites as "RSS/Atom" because nobody knows what the fuck Atom is but at least they all know RSS, primarily as that thing Google Reader used to do.

I'm trying to read this book, but it's longer than a fifteen-minute read, there are basically no pictures, and it's typeset in Times New Roman. This is a true test of willpower and endurance.

I just described the age of an article of clothing as "forty pounds ago". The last six years have not been kind.

Twilight Sparkle would take one look at ChatGPT and snort. "It doesn't even understand what it's talking about. All it does is guess. If I wanted guesses, I could do that! Spike could do that! My pet owl could do that!" And then Owlowiscious would hoot. "Exactly!"
