Three years ago today, I spun out my bike and broke my ankle in the middle of the Elliott State Forest. With the then-very-new #Boygenius song &quot;Not Strong Enough&quot; bouncing through my head, I stood on one leg, lifted the bike back up, and followed the map to the nearest exit from the forest. I hit snow, and a mile later I was confronted by a fallen tree across the road. So, one-legged in the snow, I turned the bike around and headed back out the way I came, 20 miles in first gea...

So Getty Images has a few photos of my grandmother as a young woman. They were fashion photos published in Vogue in 1927-28; we&#39;ve come down a bit in the world since then. You would think that, for an exorbitant fee, I&#39;d be able to order a print or two, n&#39;est-ce pas? Non! I could license them temporarily for a specific approved purpose (i.e. not hanging on a wall in my house), or—and this is the kick in the groin—I can pay to have Getty&#39;s AI make a picture base...
