So Getty Images has a few photos of my grandmother as a young woman. They were fashion photos published in Vogue in 1927-28; we've come down a bit in the world since then. You would think that, for an exorbitant fee, I'd be able to order a print or two, n'est-ce pas? Non! I could license them temporarily for a specific approved purpose (i.e. not hanging on a wall in my house), or—and this is the kick in the groin—I can pay to have Getty's AI make a picture based on the existing photos, which I would then own. Is it worth noting that works from 1927-28 are in the public domain? I don't know, is it worth elevating my blood pressure right before bedtime?
