Sleeping with this big clunky boot on my foot is sucking pretty badly, to the point I needed a pain pill at 4 AM. I&#39;m going to try (with my doc&#39;s blessing) sleeping without it tonight and see how that goes. Today&#39;s excitement includes a shower (yay!) and maybe even leaving the house? We shall see.

Big day out! Not only did I shower and shave, my sister and I went out for lunch, then wandered downtown Grayslake before getting some beers. And now I’m going to collapse in bed with all the Ibuprofen.

Today was a nice reminder that when you are on a mobility device (in my case the knee scooter) people are generally really nice about getting out of your way and holding doors for you. It also serves as a conversation starter as people tell you about their experiences in a boot. I&#39;m OK with that!

Life on (awkwardly-adapting-to) crutches: Using the restroom, brushing your teeth, and getting your meds in order takes 30 minutes, and you&#39;re exhausted afterward.

Noted elsewhere: I was on crutches after ankle surgery 30 years ago, so I thought they would be easier this time around. I failed to take into account the fact that I was 30 years younger then too 🙂

I had a hell of a realization about what my life might look like when my sister has to leave next week. She has her own life! It&#39;s not fair to expect her to stay forever. I&#39;ve made some good adjustments so far, but thinking about things like making dinner, doing the dishes, driving to the store...huh. I have options, to be sure. Grocery delivery, drive-through restaurants (and pharmacies), maid service if needed... I need to sit down and make some lists.

@DuskDargent I&#39;m gonna buckle down and watch it eventually. I started to read the book a while back, but I was turned off by the hate-fucking and took a pass. (I&#39;m told it gets much better after that.) I swear - judging by the M/M genre, there are actually no straight hockey players at all - every single one of them is queer in some way.

I&#39;ve locked in the itinerary for this year&#39;s summer road trip. I decided to skip the boring drive between Chicago and the Rocky Mountains, so from July 1 through August 2 I&#39;ll be driving a big loop starting and ending in Portland, Oregon. I&#39;ll be working remotely 2 days/week, so it all works out.

I&#39;m taking the train to downtown Chicago later today (only an hour away, but this beats sitting in traffic!). I&#39;ve got a hotel room in The Loop for the weekend and will be at the Chicago Cider Summit tomorrow with friends. Tomorrow night may even find me at a club or two in Northalstead, but we&#39;ll see! I&#39;m sure the weather will be fine downtown this weekend. There&#39;s no way anything bad could happen in January on the shore of Lake Michigan, right?

@sutter It&#39;s been quite a while I actually had it running (I used it when FCLR was more email based) but administering it was pretty simple. It&#39;s features are pretty basic, but then you don&#39;t need (or want) a lot of bells and whistle for that.

Warmer weather (i.e. &gt;40°F/4°C) means I was able to get out and walk a couple of miles around the neighborhood. My bad ankle may not appreciate it, but I feel better overall.

@AliCatAD It&#39;s a relative thing! We&#39;ve been stuck in a rut of high temperatures around -5°C (if that) for a couple of weeks. While your weather sounds better, once it gets about 30°C I start dying of the heat!
