today’s mild annoyance: the chrome on my locker lock flaked off. it’s worse than grabbing a razor blade. on the plus side, i now know i have a good sense of touch and can differentiate between the barious cuts

Doing some reading about agentic systems, and a striking issue is how hard it is to get a non-deterministic system to behave safely. For humans we build systems to help us be safer but we seem to want to throw away those lessons. Vast amounts of work have gone into making our tools reliable, and now we&#39;re hellbent on throwing that away.

one of the joys of my allergies clearing is i can smell ball point pen ink sitting at my desk. can&#39;t say i&#39;m thrilled with the olfacotry breakthrough, but given the number of pens on my desk, I can&#39;t say it&#39;s surprising.

i’m calling this piece “nature hates you”. i’ve pulled about 25kg of Himalayan blackberry, english ivy, and bamboo. all of this grew into mu yard from various neighbors.

i was thinking about the causes of my distaste for agentic ai comes from. a non-trivial amount of my youthful reading was Heinlein’s competence porn. i dodged the military worship, but caught the desire to be good at what i do, and to be able to do a lot. agentic ai appears to reward not being competent in a lot of cases, and that is galling.
