Crossed 60,000 words today in the fantasy novel I'm writing. It's all first draft crap, but it feels good to hit that milestone.

It's wild to me that anybody ever sets up a user account with their device/OS, except for work reasons. No, I don't want your dogshit "upcoming features." I don't need a special email account with your company's name on it. I'm not interested in your Bizarro World sponsored content offerings, or your also-ran weather widget, or your pathetic excuse for a news service. I just want a phone/computer/tablet with a working OS. I will put my ow...

People will tell you your vote can't or won't matter. Vote anyway. Some will tell you the system is rigged. Vote anyway. The federal government will certainly do everything they can to suppress voter turnout. Vote anyway. Vote-by-mail is under threat due to postmark changes designed to hobble it. Vote anyway--and vote early. Voting doesn't solve everything, but it's still our first and best defense, if we'll only use it. Yes, plan for what comes next. But...

The year is 2046. An elderly Greg Bovino shuffles into a physical therapy office, leaning on his trusty walker. He's helped up onto a table, and a moment later, the therapist comes in. His skin isn't white. He checks the old man's chart, notes the name, grins. "Hi, Greg," he intones cheerfully, with a faint Somali accent. "Looks like today's exercises might be pretty uncomfortable! Luckily, I've never forgotten what your goons...

For the first time in 22 years of living in #Portland, I'm finally going to (one day of) the Waterfront Blues Festival this year. I am *so pumped* to see Durand Jones and The Indications live! #DurandJones #PDX

The sole ethical use case for generative AI is to finally create the butthole cut of CATS (2019).

@thomasfuchs In all seriousness, I'd probably have to say "the knife," or more broadly, the bladed edge. I guess there is a pretty good argument that this was probably actually discovered by a pre-modern hominid species, but evolutionarily, that's pretty close to the same thing. Can't do much of anything "civilizational" without understanding the uses of a blade, from digging to furrowing to carving to hunting.

Your viewpoint will not, and should not, be welcome everywhere all of the time, no matter the specifics. This is normal and does not infringe upon your freedom to speak your mind online. If other people disagree, or even if platforms you don't control curtail you, that is fine: the internet, not a specific site, is the medium. You don't often get to publish your rebuttal to another author at the end of their book. Often you have to publish your own. I feel like tech bros have fo...

161 years ago today, on April 9th, 1865, the pro-slavery forces of the rebel Army of Northern Virginia (under the leadership of noted traitor Robert Lee) surrendered to their moral and ethical superiors at the Appomattox Court House, marking the beginning of the end of the American Civil War. Happy Confederate Surrender Day to all who celebrate! #ConfederateSurrenderDay

I've no doubt this isn't correctly conjugated, but I still want to try and say: "Gratulálok Magyarország!" Congratulations, Hungary! Keep the faith; the road to rebuilding corrupted institutions is likely to be long, but you can walk it with your heads held high. #Hungary #Magyarország

It's on you to do what you can to help. It's not on you to save everything on your own.
