Reform getting power is like a dog chasing a car. They don't know what to do when they actually catch the car except stand there barking at it. #UKPol

A combined #FungiFriday / #Mosstodon for you - Hoof fungus on a mossy tree trunk. Taken at the aptly named Moss's Banks near Oakamoor, Staffordshire.

Happy birthday Sir Terry Pratchett. The more the world gets more cruel and unfair, the more I miss him. Plus the Vimes boots theory remains the greatest piece of economics ever written. #TerryPratchett #Books

Techbros: civil liberties being eroded - great news for us! 🤮 "News of Meta’s plan to include facial recognition in its smart glasses broke out in February. In an internal memo, the company noted that the current situation in the U.S. was a good time for the feature’s release. “We will launch during a dynamic political environment where many civil society groups that we would expect to attack us would have their resources focused on other concerns,” says the document." https...

If people say Brits are obsessed with the weather, they're correct. It was 20C last week, today it's 7C and alternating between hail/sleet, gale force winds and bright sunshine. #UK #Weather

My favourite Mastodon app, no longer being updated, can't quote toot and doesn't display quote toots. I'm fine with that.

"Remember: Spring back, fall forward" A friend of mine on Facebook used to say that every time the clocks changed and see how many fish he reeled in. It's honestly one of the only things I miss about Facebook. #DaylightSavingsTime

Just about to watch the new episode of For All Mankind. I loved the early seasons but I've got to admit that it's starting to lose me, the further it gets away from reality. Now they have to plausibly convince me that a Mars colony could possibly win against Earth. Hmm, we'll see about that. #SciFi #AppleTV

Had a look round pretty much all of the charity shops here on the search for #vinyl and came home empty handed. If I liked Slim Whitman though it would have been my lucky day!

Just got home after a lovely 8 mile walk around Alton in Staffordshire (near Alton Towers, you could actually hear screaming from the rollercoasters!) This is a wire sculpture of a fairy in a tree, somewhere between Oakamoor and Cotton. #Photography #Sculpture #Walking

The only time I remotely miss Twitter is on International Women's Day when Richard Herring used to raise money for charity by replying to all the idiotic men asking when International Men's Day is (it's 19th November). Anyway, happy International Women's Day to all who celebrate, which should be everyone. #InternationalWomensDay

Koupen-chan is about the cutest damn thing I've ever seen. Super short slices of happiness. Look up "kawaii" in the Japanese dictionary and there should be a picture of Koupen-chan. #Anime #Kawaii

I fancied stir fry for tea and was halfway through making it when I realised I didn't have any noodles. So I used spaghetti instead, same thing right!? Probably just insulted a billion people 😂

Tales of my weird brain 226: Weird songs I sing in my head. A couple of examples. When I read something about a nepo baby, my brain sings "I'm a nepo baby, so why don't you kill me". To the tune of Beck's Loser. Another one, an extremely niche UK one. The main character in Death in Paradise has an iconic green bucket hat that got stolen and then he got back. Now every time it appears on screen my brain sings "Return of the hat" to t...

Just re-read a 1957 Isaac Asimov short story called Profession. In this story people don't learn anything, they have a technology where they are just given the knowledge. The technology doesn't work on the main character, who has to learn "the old fashioned way", by reading books. Eventually he comes to realise that it is people like him, who have to learn "shred by shred", who have the capacity for original thought and come up with innovati...

I watched War Machine on Netflix. What's the military equivalent of copaganda? I like a big dumb action movie, but I just couldn't enjoy it with what's happening in the real world right now. #Movies #Netflix

Bought a couple of super cheap records on sale at Rarewaves for a tenner and got sent this instead, which from the receipt in the packaging I believe was supposed to go to a guy in Sao Paulo, Brazil. When I was younger I was short of cash, when I wanted to upgrade something I had to sell something. For example, when I bought my first PC I had to sell my Amiga A500 to help pay for it. Of course now I wish I still had all those things. I call it Retro Regret. I wish I had it all back, but if I could pick only two things, I'd probably pick my Dreamcast and my super cool Gameboy Advance SP NES edition. What system did you used to have that you wish you still had!? #retro #retrogam...

When a friend breaks up with someone, don't try and console them by saying "well I never really liked them anyway". Because that makes it very awkward when they get back together. Ask me how I know!
