  How I host stuff online: 1. A Beelink SER8 running Ubuntu 2. Dokku 3. My home fiber connection 4. Cloudflare tunnels The Beelink sips power at idle, makes no sound, has been fully reliable. For static sites, Cloudflare caches everything; I rarely see a hit, unless I've pushed new content (or explicitly purged the cache). For dynamic sites... I mean, an SER8 is absurdly overpowered compared to any $N/month VPS I'd care to pay for.

  Why I like this setup: - New services cost $0 and deploy via git push. I can experiment at will. - I do zero sysadmin work. No k8s nonsense. Ubuntu is on auto-update. Dokku has been delightfully straightforward. - If anything outgrows my box, I can git push to DO/etc. Real portability. - A full OSS stack; I own the data; etc - Uptime is > 99.9%, less than 99.99% Static sites cache hit anyway. (When it *is* down Clouflare shows a baffling error page I could fix with a Worker... but why?)

  For software engineers like me, the cards are wildly in the air. Some of our core skills are being automated away; even when not, the trends are clear. What remains, I think, is taste. Technical taste: knowing which languages, tools, and architectures will serve you well; having a code aesthetic and the ability to hold agents to it. Product taste: having empathy for your customer and a strong eye for design, information hierarchy, and interaction.
