For software engineers like me, the cards are wildly in the air. Some of our core skills are being automated away; even when not, the trends are clear. What remains, I think, is taste. Technical taste: knowing which languages, tools, and architectures will serve you well; having a code aesthetic and the ability to hold agents to it. Product taste: having empathy for your customer and a strong eye for design, information hierarchy, and interaction.
