  I believe I have a diagnosis for my mom's AC. Corroded compressor terminals. One wire corroded completely off. Three-terminal device with only two terminals connected. There are all sorts of compressor repair kits on the market. Going to recommend this one and see whether Mom approves. Still cheaper than a service call.   Saw a toot about needing stuff you just threw away, so I have to add my two cents. I was cleaning up and talking to myself in Mac's voice from Midwest Magic Cleaning on YouTube, "Are you really going to regret not keeping that piece of 50-year-old rusty galvanized pipe?" No, of course not, get rid of it. Mere days later: "Slide a piece of old pipe over the motor shaft and hammer the fan blade hub to break it loose." It never fails!

  Funniest kitchen gadget story I ever heard was when Jacques Torres was trying to buy one of those hand-held mini butane torch things to carmelize the sugar on a crème brûlée. He was down on Canal Street trying to explain what he wanted to the store owner who was not a native English speaker. Suddenly, the light bulb goes on, and the guy exclaims, "Oh! you want to smoke crack!"

  I guess age verification is the wrong term. They're not actually verifying, at least not yet. PII collection or (prelude to) identity theft would be better ways to say it. Have I been pwned? Yes you have. Or if you haven't, just give it a little time.
