Fern release v1.3.5 is out now, bringing a few stability and bug :blobcat_googly_bug: fixes since my last ping about v1.3.0: - desktop launchers (lmk if these dont work on your OS of choice) - emoji render bugfix - panics (at the disco) are handled gracefully - errors dumped to console upon crashes for easier bug reporting https://codeberg.org/InodeLabs/fern/releases/tag/v1.3.5 #notetaking #tui #golang #pkm

Where do you see yourself in five years? Ideally, riding my bicycle drawn electronics repair cart full of ancient hardware chips, from before the AI-FOSS Wars. I help communities repair their tech in exchange for a room and meal at the local inn, swapping stories and learning from one another. #monkandrobot #permacomputing

Nothing to see here. Just a little re-branding. :neofox_wink_blep: The difference a name makes cannot be understated! Going from one that was like "ehh it's okay" >> smiling whenever I hear it... just :neofox_aww: ❤️

New release of Fern TUI notetaking and journal today with v1.2.0! Aside from lots of bugfixes and stabilizing improvements to the codebase, some notable items were: - New languages added, deeper translation of UI & better pluralization (p11n) - In-app settings editor - Templates support looping and date offsets for injections Super huge thanks to @zygoon@fosstodon.org for their contributions with Polish 🇵🇱 translations AND Snap yaml config!! :neofox_aww: We're live on the Snapcraf...

That brief moment you are convinced that your keyboard is broken because most of your shortcuts don't work, for some inexplicable reason. Then you remember that you switched the layout over to Workman earlier and that you have to stop looking at the darn keyboard. Your brain was broken, not the keyboard. :neofox_sob:

Boosts appreciated. My last FT role came from Twitter, pre-Elon. Hoping Fedi can help me find my next role! :Blobhaj_Heart: Many thanks! I'm looking for a job or contract work as software engineer. Passions lie with the backend systems, developer tooling, open source work, and anything terminal based. I have about 7 years professional experience with Python (fullstack Django and Data engineering work mostly), along with 1 year of Rust work as well. Comfortable with C and Go(newer to latte...

Translation work on the Fern TUI interface is coming along. Hitting a lot of snags with the different ways languages structure grammar, sentences and words (some don't have a plural, gendered languages, etc). :blobcat_itisfine: Will probably need to back up a little and rework things, so it's much simpler in order to improve UI translation accuracy...with the tradeoff likely being more work for translators to setup and maintain. :bunhdthink: PS. If anyone knows of good examples of...

I've been head down for the past few months this year, working on a major overhaul of Fern, the note-taking, journal, knowledge-management shell script that I made over a year ago. Super excited to be able to share the new project, which is inching closer to v1. It's now a beautiful Terminal UI (TUI), written in Go, leveraging the amazing BubbleTea, Glamour libraries. I wanted to make something that could be powerful like #Obsidian or #Logseq while keeping the footprint low as possible....
