  Today is Bandcamp Friday, and I’m recommending the new Album “Aposta Amorosa” from Marco de Carvalho just released today: https://marcodecarvalho.bandcamp.com/album/aposta-amorosa Marco was raised in Rio de Janeiro (now based in Seattle) and plays Samba and related styles of music on nylon string guitar. This album is a collection of 21 original compositions both instrumental and songs. I worked on this album with him doing all the recording and mixing. I love it. #BandcampFriday

  I love the Ballot Alert text messages I get from King County Elections. I get one when they mail my ballot so I know when to look for. I get one when they collect my ballot from the drop box so I know they have it. Then, I get one when they verify my signature that tells it’s all good and my ballot will be counted. Also, that one is a good reason to vote early. If they can’t verify your signature you know and have time to fix it. #Seattle #Voting

  If you are a voter in Washington State you should be getting your ballot for the August primary in the mail soon (I just got mine). There are four State Supreme Court primaries, and these races are often the hardest to figure out.   I am a greedy reader, and it gets me in trouble. I currently have eleven books on hold at my library, which means I’m waiting in line. I can see how far back in line I am, but that is not super useful in predicting when my turn might come up, so I wait. While waiting, I check out less popular books, then a bunch of my holds will come up at once. I see this is about to happen again. I will have three weeks to read several books. When this happens, other things in my life get put on hold. #books

  I’m sure I misunderstand the legal meaning of the word “jurisdiction”, because in my understanding of it, if a person is not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, they could not be prosecuted for crimes by the United States — as is the case with foreign diplomats. So if the government thinks people here on temporary visas or who have entered illegally are not subject to the jurisdiction, then they shouldn’t be prosecuting these people for crimes. But they are. What am I missing here?

  I listened to the entire argument in the Birthright citizenship case today, and my biggest impression from the whole thing is that the ACLU attorney Cecelia Wang is just super awesome at her job. #SCOTUS

  One time (ok maybe a few times) when I was a kid I found this whole plastic jar of premade cake frosting in the cupboard, So I got a spoon and ate it. My Mom was like “Did you eat that frosting?” And instead of answering I declared war on my brother, to protect us all from the imminent threat he represented. But still, I had to answer for the frosting. The war did not go as well as I hoped. So to be clear, in this story the frosting is really the Epstein files, and my brother is Iran.
