  When cleaning a glass negative--or any photographic negative, for that matter--I generally leave the emulsion side alone, with the exception of some air-blower dusting. Every once in a while I run across a negative that is so incredibly filthy, but otherwise in good condition, that it seems worth the risk.   I was given this glass negative and decided to see if I could improve the state of it at all. From what I understand, it was in a basement flood and the paper envelope it was in was allowed to dry while still in contact with the emulsion. This is particularly problematic when the side of the envelope with the glue seam is facing the emulsion side of the negative. (In case this ever happens to you, remove the negatives from their sleeves *before* they get the chance to dry.) It's never g...

  I found a vintage (1950s?) Brumberger (up to) 5x7in contact printing box for sale locally. Needs a bit of a cleaning, but it's otherwise in great shape. These kinds of contact printers were meant to be used with now-hard-to-find, contact-printing-specific, silver-chloride papers like Kodak AZO.   I was so excited today when I found a like-new, unused (or barely used) GAF 3100S Super 8mm projector at a thrift store for $12.99. I've had a bunch of home-recorded Super 8 reels lying around and haven't been able to watch or digitize them properly. Well, it went very well for about five seconds.   I purchased a 1924 Bausch & Lomb Balopticon (https://archive.org/details/balopticonsacces00baus/mode/2up) today. It's in pretty rough condition (missing some parts, the bottom of it is rusted almost all the way through, etc.), but I mostly just wanted the lenses. I managed to get the larger of the two off without any trouble and it is a *chonk*. 4x5 cameras for scale. It weighs just over 12lbs. 😂 Not sure what to do with it yet.   Some shots off my first roll of Lucky SHD50 film. Stand developed in 510-Pyro (1:300 for 1hr, briefly agitated at 30min). I shot these at ISO 12... which is probably underexposing. Super-high contrast (obviously). I would not recommend stand development of any kind with this film. I was trying it with 510-Pyro to see if I could get a bit less contrast. I don't think it helped and caused some intense fogging of the base layer. This film feels a little like shooting with a deep red filter....

  Harman released a new (creative/experimental) color film today in both 35mm and 120 called "Harman Switch Azure". The name comes from the fact that they've swapped the red and blue dye layers while leaving the sensitivity in the expected order. So, red/orange/yellow colors become shades of blue/purple in the final, positive image... while blues show up as shades of yellow/orange/red. Probably not the kind of film that everyone will enjoy, but it's nice to see ne...
