Everything you see here is currently on fire or has burned, best I can determine from the official maps. The Babylon fire is currently estimated at 103,633 acres and is 25% contained. Fire activity for the Babylon fire is expected to remain active. Cause has not be determined, but the extreme drought in the area cannot have helped. Path Across the Meadow San Juan National Forest, CO [tall photo] Are human feet required for #FootpathFriday ? I'm guessing this "game trail" is likely caused by elk as I saw a small herd in the area. #photo #nature #NationalForest #Colorado

Moki Dugway Bears Ears National Monument, UT I'd already driven part way down when I leaned out my window to take this photo. Valley of the Gods is just out of frame to the left. You can just see the edge of Monument Valley through the haze on the horizon to the right. There is so much hype and influencer scare mongering about this relatively easy and fairly wide gravel road. Yes, it clings to the cliff, and yes it's a long way down, but I've seen full sized RVs pulling...

Cinnamon Bear Uncompahgre National Forest, CO I was sitting in my camp chair with my long lens hoping for some pretty birds to pose for photos when I caught movement up the small valley. Very excited when this bear ambled by as I'd only ever gotten brief glimpses while driving. He wasn't very concerned about me, but did look over from time to time as he was foraging along the ground. I got lots of photos, but this was the most "artistic." Only later remembered I could have t...

Mexican Hat Rock & San Juan River Mexican Hat, UT From an angle not seen by most as you have to climb (on foot or 4x4) up the far side of the adjoining hill; there is also a rough road that leads down to the river, but it so clogged by salt cedar you can't see the water. #photo #landscape #redrock #geology #PublicLands #Utah

"First Light" 😎 Got my smart telescope yesterday just in time for a week of clouds. But caught a bit of a break this morning. Hardly know what I'm doing even after reading the manual and watching videos. This is downloaded from the scope to my phone, uploaded onto my desktop and cropped in Affinity with only a little bit of brightness and contrast. First thing I learned is I need a chair or stool to sit on while I ponder the UI 😆 #Dwarf3 #astrodon

Total Eclipse of the Sun August 21, 2017 There will be a total solar eclipse across a great swath of North America next April. I met with friends to camp in the middle of Wyoming to capture this photo using my long lens with special filtering film covering the objective. Look carefully at this color photo and you can see a couple solar prominences. I was amazed I was able capture the corona this well. #ThrowbackThursday #eclipse #photo #sun #astronomy

Black-tailed Jack Rabbit Petroglyphs National Park, NM [vertical photo] These critters usually run away quickly before I can get even remotely close. Here I got a view through the brush with my long lens. Love how the light illuminates the eye and shines through the ear. #WildlifeWednesday #rabbit #photo #nature #NationalPark #NewMexico

Coyote Petroglyph National Monument, NM Sort of a twist on #WildlifeWednesday if you will allow it. Not unusual to hear these tricksters engaging in song down in the bosque and on occasion they will sing a chorus or two in the yard. Last night they decided to stage an entire opera outside my bedroom at 2:30am. I finally had to get up to turn on the floodlights, which usually does the trick, but last night I had to pound on the glass to move the three of them along. Sigh. Never did get back t...

Variegated Meadowhawk Albuquerque, NM Last week riding on the levee trail an orangish dragonfly quickly crossed my path. The shape matches this species and based on historical record this species may be active in NM this early in the season. So this is my educated guess. #photo #nature #InsectSaturday #InsektenSamstag #odonata #NewMexico
