Outside the Institut för Rymdfysik (IRF, Institute of space physics), there is a bird feeder/house which is also the Institut för Rymdfysik. Inside there are small people looking at their own IRF feeder. Its Institutes all the way down... #kiruna

The new stuff is really going for it today. "I'M GREEN! I'M NEW! JUST LOOK AT ME!"

Tomorrow's one of those #orienteering events whereat I'll look at the map just after starting and wonder what the point is. It's a grim area, and i only have a few races left before my knees actually stop working. Still, if you want this cheery fellow to help you park neatly, I'll be there at stupid o'clock in a hi vis...

Just finished The Future Of Another Timeline by the excellent @annaleen and apart from Nabatean cropping up in the newspaper weekend quiz, and me now knowing where Raqmu is, and apart from learning a bunch, it's kinda shocking how close different realities could be just because people are cruel and/or stupid and/or narrow-minded or selfish or... and then I see the news.

So, I've never owned a car, but I do sometimes drive when necessary, mostly when cycling or public transport are impractical or impossible. I know little about vehicles of any kind, and find it weird that anyone cares about them at all. I think private vehicle ownership is capitalist insanity. Anyway, long story short, I understand BYD are doing great things. Every time i see one though I think "Boil Your Dog". I can't make it stop.

The rise in fuel costs because of their war must be horrendous for Americans. Cost is almost as much as a full half what they are in places that tax it appropriately to disincentivise and replace fossil fuel.

    #MaydayMile my rules - at least 1 mile i wouldn't otherwise do

second day of #MaydayMile is child on hike, rest of team on paddleboards doing a loop. #rnli so far its easy to an additional mile each day... tomorrow it will be raining, so probably running or biking rather than walking. https://fundraise.rnli.org/s/25502/27266

I now have to interact often with oracle's netsuite. i simply cannot understand how software can be so utterly appallingly designed. especially from a company that once upon a time understood databases. It might be built on 'Oracle v2', circa 1980. it has no redeeming qualities. slow, bad, ui also still based in the 80s, inflexible flow. I can do better than this and I'm not a software engineer.

just thought i'd share the excellent white noise page from loop. you don't have to have to use their earplugs to enjoy building your own whitenoise soundscape: (i am constantly on a mix of rain+forest+thunderstorm+pink noise). its a rare example of something really well implemented, no fuss. #whitenoise #sleep https://www.loopearplugs.com/pages/white-noise-generator

I'm actually going to solder up a 555 for the first time in nearly forever because the waveform generator ordered a month ago with 7 day delivery time won't be here for another month. I've had the numbers 0.693 and 1.44 in my head rent-free since secondary school in the 1980s, now to put them in the right places... thanks Mr L. I remember being excited about using half a 556 to trigger the other half. Such a nerd. #electronics

Most years I do something to support the RNLI in addition to being a regular donor. This year's shenanigans is "Mayday Mile"... a mile of _something_ every day in May. Not the hardest thing, but still. Please consider supporting! I've roped my crew in so we all have to do it. Or - join in yourself? #rnli #MayDayMile https://fundraise.rnli.org/fundraisers/hochco

Do i know anyone who understands how to model a patch antenna pattern when its partially obscured by a conductive panel? Asking for a friend. Obviously not a real friend, because who needs friends like that. Maybe this friend is a demon on my shoulder. For example.
