New language-related reading stats! (Things I added to my reading tracker this weekend). It will be interesting to compare over the years, but for now these are my reading stats so far for 2026 :neocat_book: #ReadingTracker

#얼굴들 #ゲームの世界に転生した俺がooになるまで1 I made some progress on my current Japanese and Korean books. 얼굴들 is so great, I’m reading it slowly, but I’m really enjoying it. It’s not a straightforward police novel, and I still don’t know in what direction it’s going to go. Very intriguing and interesting so far!

#얼굴들 I found a mention of 꽃게무침 (spicy marinated crab) for my Korean food journal, a rare find!

There’s a character in Spring Unending whose name is 惠姑 Huìgū, and when I heard her name, I immediately thought of the word 蟪蛄 huìgū (cicada) that is in my Anki. Not the same characters, but the same pronunciation, so I’m sure the association is intended. So I made a quick search to see what kind of cicada 蟪蛄is. It’s called Kempfer cicada in English and is mostly found in China, Russia, Korea, Japan. The word 蟪蛄 also appears in the expression 蟪蛄不知春秋 (huìgū bù zhī chūn qiū) The cicada doesn’t...

#FIX2 Finished the sixth short story! Just one more to go. I’ll probably finish it tomorrow :blob_smiley:

    #얼굴들 Starting part 2! :meow_read2:

#FIX2 I finished FIX 2:這個故事有問題 by 臥斧, and it was as good as the first one! (It’s better to read them in order.) The stories are focused on authors of crime fiction and the writing process, while also being good mysteries in themselves. I really wish the collections were translated into English! #FinishedReading

#那年東眼山斜角派出所 For my next read in Chinese, I’m going to read the novel 那年,東眼山,斜角派出所 by Yen Yu 顏瑜 (my favourite Taiwanese author so far!) I read two of his police novels, and I loved them more than I could say, so I’m excited to start a new one! I say “police novels” not as in “genre” like police procedural, but more as in “topic”, because the books describe in detail the daily work of police officers and criticise the flaws of the system. The novel is quite short, so maybe I can finish it this...

I tried to clear the Papilla at Fearless with Kinich but couldn’t, and it wasn’t even close… I know his team is not perfect, but I’m a bit disappointed still. The team that did clear the Papilla at Fearless was Bineffa-Ororon-Kazuha. I still can’t do a full Fearless clear, but I might try again later, I feel like it should be possible this time! #GenshinImpact

#那年東眼山斜角派出所 I’m halfway through 那年,東眼山,斜角派出所 by 顏瑜 already! Our protagonist is a young police officer full of enthusiasm, kind of similar to the protagonist of 403小組,警隊出動!, but the setting is the total opposite. In 403小組,警隊出動!, quotas put a lot of pressure on officers who were always busy and working long shifts, in 那年,東眼山,斜角派出所 cases rarely happen and daily work is light. I like it so far, it has a bit of romance, which is a nice change of pace.

#那年東眼山斜角派出所 I’m close to the end (85%)! I’ll probably finish it tomorrow. I’ve been neglecting my other books to read 那年,東眼山,斜角派出所, but I really love it and it reads very easily too.

#那年東眼山斜角派出所 I finished 那年,東眼山,斜角派出所 by Yen Yu 顏瑜! Realistic depiction of police work, a little bit of romance and coming of age novel at the same time… I loved it! :neocat_heart: #FinishedReading

My current Korean book is 얼굴들 by 이동원, I kept seeing this book in bookstores, and I’ve been wanting to read since it came out. I haven’t read much lately, and I’m still at the beginning, but I like it so far! #얼굴들
