Was delighted when I looked over at a car slowly overtaking me in traffic. I saw a little imp up in the back window who made eye contact, pretended to pick her nose and then eat the phantom booger. She had such a look of “I’m being naughty and I know my dad can’t see me” that I laughed for a good minute.

Got the first hurdle done on a multi-stage home project that's going to take more planning and thought to complete. It's going through stuff that had been hastily stored in disorganized fashion when we needed to clear space for work on the shelves and flooring. We're talking cords and other electronic stuff in six or seven disorganized boxes, boxes and boxes of books, anything that went in drawers that no longer have drawers to put them back into. It's a "move stuff to g...

I meant to look something up when I got back to my computer. I have no idea what it was. I'll probably remember the next time I'm driving, though.

I find that putting the garbage and recycling out to the curb earlier in the day makes me hate doing it less. If I put it off, the longer I wait the less I want to do it. Now that it's done, no sweat.

I confess I didn’t have “classics professors complaining the Odyssey didn’t have any sex in it” on my bingo card.

People have always lied about anything and everything. I wonder if the ways we lie have become more sophisticated (i.e. photoshop, deepfakes, cloning websites, etc.), or if it's the same stuff updated for technology and I'm just older. Reputation is probably still the most important way to avoid bullshit, but even then, folks trade away reputation if the payoff seems big enough.

Old cat forgets to eat these days, but she will eat breakfast in bed. As long as she’s still happy to eat, she gets food wherever she might be.

I had nothing I needed to get up for this morning. I even intended to sleep in decadently. Nope, my brain decided I should be up at 6a, and there was no gain saying it.

It's starting to look like I'm going to unlock the "First Root Canal" achievement. While I'm extremely unthrilled at the prospect, I'd like the current tooth pain to go away. At least the referring doc can see me today before the weekend.

Apparently if you're not excited about more on-device AI processing malarkey, there's no real compelling reason to upgrade iPhones again. I've toggled every AI thing off, so I'm not the market. I like new and shiny things, but I'm already n-1 and about to be n-2 for phones. Zero FOMO.

Not really that tempted, but the LEGO ad for the X-Files set with Gillian Anderson is very cute: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhHKsgH39XI

Oof. Got back from a drill-and-fill at the dentist. As the anesthetic wears off, suddenly my jaw feels super itchy. It's still pretty numb, so I'm sure it's just the chemicals wearing off, but wowzers.

Yay, my dogged neighbor has the gas-powered pressure washer deployed again. What he lacks in efficiency and technique, he compensates with stubborn commitment to getting the job done. For hours. sigh

Sometimes, not often but sometimes, my morning cup of coffee hits me just right, and a feeling of bliss steals over me.

Trying to wrap my mind around leisure activities, in the sense that some of them seem to be approval-farming ("look at me, I'm doing X") instead of being something I might enjoy for its own sake. There's a part of me that wants to do more of some activities, but I'm stopped when I think do I really want to do them or do I want approval from others for doing them? I'm suspecting the latter, and I'm trying to consciously do fewer approval-seeking behaviors. Many fol...

Since our geriatric cat made the transition to wet food for kidney care, I'm still not used to the smell. I keep thinking it smells like something good's cooking for breakfast. Nope, just the cat's food. Glad she likes it, even if she forgets where it is or that she needs to eat. At least she remembers to eat when we put it under her nose, and she's getting the calories in.

Woke up to a worried cat face right over mine. "Morning services" hadn't yet been completed, and our geriatric cat was ready to eat. She carefully supervised me and guided me downstairs to the cat food, even making sure I didn't take any wrong turns on the way. All is well once again.

Hmm. Either someone lit this candle earlier this morning, or I was so tired I left it burning last night. Judging by the wax pool, oops.

I went looking for a bookmarked post, and in the process I discovered I've apparently hit bookmark instead of fave (I guess) a number of times. No idea why some of these very random posts would have bookmarked otherwise.

Unthrilled. The senile-but-chirpy old Siamese awoke me to tell me cheerfully she was hungry. When I got up and went downstairs to feed her, I discovered that she had a full bowl of food but apparently forgot where it was. She's now sleeping in the warm spot in the bed I vacated.
